From Rupi Kaur, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of milk and honey, comes her long-awaited second collection of poetry。 A vibrant and transcendent journey about growth and healing。 Ancestry and honoring one’s roots。 Expatriation and rising up to find a home within yourself。

Divided into five chapters and illustrated by Kaur, the sun and her flowers is a journey of wilting, falling, rooting, rising, and blooming。 A celebration of love in all its forms。

this is the recipe of life
said my mother
as she held me in her arms as i wept
think of those flowers you plant
in the garden each year
they will teach you
that people too
must wilt
fall
root
rise
in order to bloom

So beautifully written , 6 stars if I could, so tear jerking。

A friend lent this book to me, tattered, marked up, and browned around the edges from so much love。 I told her I wanted to start getting into poetry and she said that Rupi Kaur changed her life。Reading this book with that friend in mind made it worth it。 I know she has dealt with some tough stuff, and there were times when I was reading, thinking, “wow, Rupi Kaur was whispering into her ear, reminding her to be strong。” I can see how this collection could be a sort of rock for someone。I wasn’t a A friend lent this book to me, tattered, marked up, and browned around the edges from so much love。 I told her I wanted to start getting into poetry and she said that Rupi Kaur changed her life。Reading this book with that friend in mind made it worth it。 I know she has dealt with some tough stuff, and there were times when I was reading, thinking, “wow, Rupi Kaur was whispering into her ear, reminding her to be strong。” I can see how this collection could be a sort of rock for someone。I wasn’t as impressed with the book as a whole, but certain poems stood out to me。 Funny enough, all of the pages bookmarked by my friend were the ones I didn’t care as much about。 It makes sense… we have totally different experiences。 She loves Rupi’s ability to put into words the pain of love and loss。 Me? I’m ALL ABOUT her feminist and pro-earth themes。 I loved that she threw in stuff about immigration (though it felt reeeaaaallly out of place in the context of this collection), and certain poems elicited pretty strong reactions from me。 What this tells me about The Sun and Her Flowers is that it is highly subjective。 It’s like a horoscope reading: you’re bound to find something that fits with your life and circumstances。Let’s talk about poetry。 I’m so torn。 This is definitely not what I was thinking when I told my friend I wanted to read more poetry。 It’s not the style I would have selected for myself。 But I didn’t hate it。 Just because it’s always been done a certain way doesn’t mean it can’t change and adapt。 So I feel comfortable saying, yes, I can accept this as modern poetry。 BUT I did not feel like this style shows the skill and fitness I would expect of traditional poetry。 Some of her poems were deep and well-crafted, but others felt like an afterthought with a scribble of a drawing underneath。It was 50% amazing and 50% blah。 I think that sums it up。 。。。more

Worse than I thought it would be and expectations were already in hell。 The book was split into 4 sections and the only bit I could get on board with was ‘Risings’。 The rest of the book was empty。 Risings alone is holding this review at 2 stars。 Lock Screen poetry, Rupi Kaur writes as though she’s fighting so hard to be relatable or to seem like the leader of a social justice movement。 Good poetry speaks to people on its own, this writing feels so specific like you HAVE to care about it, you hav Worse than I thought it would be and expectations were already in hell。 The book was split into 4 sections and the only bit I could get on board with was ‘Risings’。 The rest of the book was empty。 Risings alone is holding this review at 2 stars。 Lock Screen poetry, Rupi Kaur writes as though she’s fighting so hard to be relatable or to seem like the leader of a social justice movement。 Good poetry speaks to people on its own, this writing feels so specific like you HAVE to care about it, you have to feel it’s good or you’re a bad person。 Many of her poems speak as soulless knockoffs of poetry I have read before, the forced nature really brings this whole piece of work down for me。 Ironic when one page was dedicated to some babble about not confusing honesty with relatability。 Maybe she needs to take a page out of her own book。 Definitely not for me, this is a 4 year old book, I hope she has grown in her most recent。“i am trying to notmake you pay for their mistakesi am trying to teach myselfyou are not responsiblefor the woundhow can i punish youfor what you have not doneyou wear my emotionslike a decorated army vestyou are not cold orsavage or hungryyou are medicinalyou are not them” 。。。more

Rupi Kaur’s 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘴 is one that is accessible, brave and audacious。 She is full of passion and I love what she advocates。⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Through her work she explores a variety of themes including loss, sexual abuse, trauma, migration, orgasm, love, female infanticide and so much more。⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣She not only writes beautiful prose, she also implements delightful sketches to illustrate her words。⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

3。0 / 5。0Some of the poems here I really loved because they made me think in a new light。 Many of them only talked about pseudo-deep things and made me irrationally annoyed。 The word I would use to describe most of them, however, would be interesting。 I had an adventure reading this book, no lie。 It was perfect for my short attention span too。 ~ 17 August 2021

Wow。 I'm not a poetry girl, but I do try to explore it every once in a while just to expand my horizons, and that decision was an absolute inspiration when I opened this book。 Kaur is extremely gifted and I enjoyed her word art immensely。 Her illustrations were hit and miss with me--some were fantastic and others didn't strike me at all。 But that's the nature of art。 No one thing suits everyone。I sent many quotes from this book to people in my life I thought would benefit from Kaur's words, and Wow。 I'm not a poetry girl, but I do try to explore it every once in a while just to expand my horizons, and that decision was an absolute inspiration when I opened this book。 Kaur is extremely gifted and I enjoyed her word art immensely。 Her illustrations were hit and miss with me--some were fantastic and others didn't strike me at all。 But that's the nature of art。 No one thing suits everyone。I sent many quotes from this book to people in my life I thought would benefit from Kaur's words, and encouraged them all to read the entire book。 Kaur addresses painful topics with sincerity, honesty, and deep introspection that takes an emotional maturity many of us do not possess。 It's inspirational and likely comes from years of working through difficult situations and experiences, paired with skilled therapy and perhaps even a natural gift for understanding emotions and psychology in a way most of us do not。Even if you are a die-hard poetry hater, PLEASE give Kaur's a chance。 It will hit you where it counts。 Trust me。 。。。more

Okay。。。so, I liked this one a lot better than Milk and Honey but I still didn't love it。 Some of it felt like Instagram inspirational quotes and I don't really like the whole breaking up random sentences and calling it groundbreaking poetry。 Maybe she's just not the right author for me。。。or maybe modern poetry, in general, isn't for me。 Okay。。。so, I liked this one a lot better than Milk and Honey but I still didn't love it。 Some of it felt like Instagram inspirational quotes and I don't really like the whole breaking up random sentences and calling it groundbreaking poetry。 Maybe she's just not the right author for me。。。or maybe modern poetry, in general, isn't for me。 。。。more

I typically am not a poetry fan and I really enjoyed this compilation! Thoughtful, real writing and real-life situations。 I loved the formatting of the printing as well。

For me every girl and woman should read this book。 Rupi Kaur put what i feel and felt in my life through beautiful words and illustration。 She shows self-love, heartbreak and most importantly being a woman/girl。

4。5 Jamás en mi vida había leído un poemario。 Lo hice para ver si podía leer en inglés y, aunque eso afectó en que me encantara por completo, igual lo amé。

i'm sure that absolutely no one is surprised by my distaste for "the sun and her flowers" because i absolutely hated milk and honey。 i have nothing more to add。 my review of milk and honey would essentially be the exact same as this one, if not better because it just gets worse i'm sure that absolutely no one is surprised by my distaste for "the sun and her flowers" because i absolutely hated milk and honey。 i have nothing more to add。 my review of milk and honey would essentially be the exact same as this one, if not better because it just gets worse 。。。more

Once again, Rupi Kaur somehow knows how to explain what most women probably feel and don’t know how to put in words。 So many of her poems resonate with me。 She’s one of the modern day poetry GOATS。 🐐

I underestimated Rupi Kaur's poetry。 I read only the poems that have been shared on Instagram。 But after reading the second compilation of her poems, I have to admit that she is good。 I started reading this book in May and finished it in August, it took me a long time because the raw reality with which Rupi writes often left me ungrounded, with great anguish - for her, for the situations described, and for myself。 Wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming are the five chapters this collecti I underestimated Rupi Kaur's poetry。 I read only the poems that have been shared on Instagram。 But after reading the second compilation of her poems, I have to admit that she is good。 I started reading this book in May and finished it in August, it took me a long time because the raw reality with which Rupi writes often left me ungrounded, with great anguish - for her, for the situations described, and for myself。 Wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming are the five chapters this collection is divided into。 Thoughts on grief and love and self-esteem and losing yourself to the point of not caring, and then slowly finding your way back to yourself。 Kaur's courageous honesty figures her as a literary revolutionary, fighting oppression through fragmentation and dismantling the taboo。I am very eager to start reading Rupi Kaur again。 。。。more
